What is CSRD?

Effective from January 2023, the CSRD requires companies to share detailed insights on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and practices. Businesses will begin reporting under these new standards starting from fiscal years beginning on or after January 1, 2024, setting a new benchmark in corporate responsibility.

The timeline

Phased rollout based on company size and scope
2025
Former NFRD companies report for the first time according to a first set of sustainability reporting standards for their 2024 fiscal year.
2025-
From 2025 and on: VSME Reporting. Companies outside the scope of CSRD requirements, may use the voluntary VSME standard to address reporting requirements from their investors, customers and other stakeholders​.
2028
Reporting, Other Large Companies. Other large companies, which meet the thresholds report for their FY2027. ​Foreign companies with major activities (subsidiaries) in the EU are required to report from 2028 at the consolidated level of the parent company.
2029
Other Entities Begin Reporting​.
Listed SMEs will follow and begin reporting in 2029.​
